What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about Green Swamp Preserve's unique flora, particularly the Venus flytraps and other carnivorous plants, and the peaceful, serene atmosphere of the longleaf pine savannas. The well-marked, easy trail is appreciated by many. However, some find the entrance and parking difficult to locate, and the presence of bugs is a common concern. The metal boardwalk can also be an issue for dog owners.
"If you want to see carnivorous plants, this is where you should come! We saw flytraps, pings, sundews, and pitcher plants!
The entrance is just some gravel down with enough space for like 6-8 cars max. It is very easy to miss, slow down and listen to your gps and you won't miss the entrance.
This is a swamp, so plenty of bugs all around. The trail is less than 3 miles but full of things to look at. At the end you just turn around and go back the same way you came.
Excellent place to spend a couple hours looking at nature. Be respectful, wear your mucking boots, long pants, long sleeves and bug spray and you'll have a great time!"

"Great hike, peaceful and quiet - one of my favorite NC spots.
Be aware if you have dogs - there's a spot on the trail where there's a metal boardwalk that doesn't feel good on dog feet. I fortunately could carry my 60-lb baby for the ~150 steps."

"What an awesome place to find! The only hard part was the parking lot and finding it. The address in Google was off, but if you hit directions, it was correct. Yelp and Garmin were also off. Once you get there though, it is worth the trip! Flowers, birds, trees, a pond, and all of the open nature! Make sure you stay on the trails. If you go off at all, you will step on vegetation. We saw several species of birds and plants. The "metal grate area" unfortunately had no water, so we did not see any Venus flytraps this time. We are currently close to a drought, but I could see where it would be muddy normally, so bring appropriate shows. The trail is for all ages. There were two couples hiking at the time we were there. One in their 70's and one in their 80s, so it really can be for everyone! We will definitely be going back!"
