What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Round1 Gurnee offers a massive arcade with a wide variety of games, a bowling alley, and an indoor playground, making it a popular family destination. While many praise the cleanliness and game selection, some visitors find the pricing for games and bowling to be quite high, and claw machines are frequently criticized for not paying out.
"I was initially going to give Round1 4 stars, but after reading the reviews here, I realized that alot of what was written here was true.
It is a fairly large facility, but when you subtract the bowling lanes and the absurd amount of claw machines, its really only about average sized for an arcade.
Speaking of claw machines. They don't pay out, weak claw grabbers that drop everything. Don't bother with these.
The pricing is very high. I included pictures of the rates. Not included is the $2 per new card dispensed. $40 doesn't last long. Some of these machines were almost 20 credits. Criminal!
It's not all bad though.
The machines here were very well taken care of and when you factor in the flashiness and colors most had, it almost had a casino feel to it.
They had a nice variety of games to play here, sports games, games of skill, competitive 1V1, racing, they had it all.
There was a play area for young children. Looked like there was a jungle gym and obstacle course in there.
The place was clean. Employees were out and about tidying things up.
There was a bowling alley. I cant speak for how well it was maintained though.
I generally have a stance that arcades are extremely overrated, but I can say I'm impressed by the games they had, but I'm even more impressed that I somehow didn't actually spend any money in here. The people I went with did and they weren't happy with how fast it disappeared."

"Its a great spot. The kids love the jungle area. The arcade was great. The food had many options. Its fairly priced. Great spot to take the kids for a special occasion or on a rainy day."

"We went to Round1 and it was super fun! They had my favorite games like House of the Dead, Fast and Furious, Marvel VS Capcom 2 and Mario Kart. They also have tons of Japanese arcade games that was a plus and they had very good prizes for the crane machines. I won a lot of things from the crane machines. The Staff was super friendly to me. Overall this Arcade place is tons of fun and we will be definitely be coming back. 5 out of 5"

Navigating the Arcade Experience
However, it's crucial to be aware of the credit system. Games range from 10 to 20 credits per play, and purchasing a new game card costs $2. This can lead to your budget dwindling faster than expected, as one reviewer noted spending $40 that didn't last long. While the machines are generally well-maintained and visually impressive, the cost per play is a recurring point of discussion among visitors.
For those looking to maximize their playtime, consider looking for any available package deals or promotions. Some visitors have also found success with specific games that offer better value for their credits. Ultimately, the arcade experience at Round1 Gurnee is about embracing the fun and variety, while being mindful of the spending.
Bowling at Round1: Fun but Pricey
However, be prepared for the cost. Multiple reviews highlight that bowling at Round1 can be quite expensive, with prices cited around $8 per game per person. This can add up quickly, especially for larger groups or longer bowling sessions. Some visitors found the pricing to be outrageous compared to other bowling alleys.
Despite the cost, many still find it a fun experience, particularly if it's a special occasion or a rainy day activity. If bowling is your primary focus, it's worth weighing the cost against the overall enjoyment and comparing it to other local bowling options.
Family Fun and Kid-Friendly Features
Beyond the playground, the arcade itself offers a wide range of games that can appeal to various age groups. While some games are more complex, many are intuitive and fun for kids. The variety ensures that even if one game isn't a hit, there are plenty of others to try.
When planning a family outing, consider the budget. While the playground itself is part of the overall entertainment, arcade games and bowling will incur additional costs. Many families find it a great spot for special occasions or a fun way to spend a day, especially on a rainy day.
