Visitors consistently praise Gibson Woods Nature Preserve for its serene atmosphere, abundant birdlife, and educational nature center. The well-maintained trails and the unique bird watching room are frequently highlighted as major attractions. Some visitors note that the nature center hours can be limited, and the preserve's location might require a bit of searching to find.
"We enjoyed a full moon hike on our first visit. The ancient nature preserve hasn’t changed much since it was first created by the glacial melt. Native plants abound even in fall. We saw a lot of hummingbirds, deer, and a woodpecker. The guide was very nice and took her time to explain the different things we were seeing. The paths are easy to walk, mainly compacted sand but the spa have wooden boards. There is a nature center but it was closed after hours. Many old trees, sassafrass was also spotted. Take an afternoon and enjoy this special area in NW Indiana"

"We have done a couple of different nature walks here with the parks department. The nature center is very informative, as are the workers. They've all been very kind during our experiences. The bird room here is absolutely delightful also. I totally recommend this place to any and all ages of nature lovers!"

"There use to be pretty good fishing out there; During the 1990's. You can only carry so much to the back of the Lake. Walking that Bridge seemed to take forever. Last time I was back there? Must have been around 10 years ago. The water was very low. Lily Pads everywhere. I don't know? Maybe it's better back there now. UPDATE 09/17/25 I would like to thank "Gibson Woods" for enlightening me on my comment 😊 You are correct! 😃 I was definitely referring to "The Oxbowl" in Hammond. I remember an Apartment Complex called Kennedy Park. My boyfriend and I have been all over Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin; Back in those days 😊 So many I can barely remember the names! 😅 Please accept my deepest apologies ❤️ My boyfriend told me to always ask him about; "Bodies of Water" Before submitting a review. I will do that next time! 😊 Thanks for reaching out!. God Bless 🙏🏾❤️"
