"Hawksnest is a really great place, currently still off the beaten path with very few houses around the pond. There are nice hiking trails through the woods, and the main pond is fantastic for swimming, kayaking and just hanging out. It is open and accessible all year round, great for dogs and very kid friendly.
There is a new bench (Feb 2025) that overlooks one of the ponds. It's really sturdy and nicely constructed.
Parking is along the road to the pond. As others have mentioned, it is a bit rough to drive all the way in, especially in a normal sedan, but you can always park along the road (before the main turn to go toward the ponds) and walk in. I suggest walking in, it is a nice stroll and very short and pretty much flat.
The main woods walk starts along the "main" road toward the ponds (if coming from route 39). You will see a trail and sign to the left, with parking along the road on the right. There are a few trails that branch off, I suggest talking a look at All Trails, Strava, etc if you prefer to know exactly where you're headed. It's hard to get lost here though.
Just a heads up that currently there are not restrooms, so be mindful of that."
