What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Desert Willow Golf Course generally receives positive remarks for its beautiful desert scenery and well-maintained courses, particularly the challenging Firecliff and the more relaxed Mountain View. Visitors appreciate the value for money and the friendly atmosphere, with some highlighting the helpfulness of staff and fellow golfers. However, a common point of contention is the slow pace of play, which can detract from the experience for some.
"I cannot express how disappointed I am with Desert Willow staff. I don't know if you had a recent change in management or the Home Owners Association held a new election and put new people in charge or what, but I can tell you that there has been a noticeable decline in the experience over the past few months.
I have been a LONGTIME patron of this course but will not play there again. The past THREE visits her have been an absolute abysmal experience. Today was the final straw for me.
On a VERY slow afternoon, I was able to walk on and play as a single. It took me 40 minutes to play 7 holes, then 35 minutes to play the last two on the front 9 due to a back-up ahead of me. When I did make the turn, there were 3 groups still waiting to tee off. The ranger who came out after noticing the delay 15 minutes into the wait did nothing to speed people up, move people along, or correct the issues. After waiting for 34 minutes and adding an additional 2 groups behind me in que for the par 4 10th hole, I had had enough and called it a day. When I explained to the guy in the pop-up tent that I played 9 and why, he just said "yeah, I heard". I asked if he would refund me the difference from 18 to 9 and he laughed. Literally, laughed, saying that was against policy. I retorted that according to their policies posted on their website, players are to maintain a pace of 10 minutes per hole, and if they exceed that, players will be asked to skip holes to regain their position on the course. He said he had no control over that.
At a time when your pro shop is closed and operating from a pop-up tent, your restaurant/bar remains closed since JUNE, and the BEST THING about the course is the cart girl, you do not deserve to have my money.
If players are looking for a similar cost and skill level courses, I recommend Eagle Crest or Durango Hills Golf Clubs, in Summerlin, or Chimera Golf Club, in Henderson."

"Love this course! In the heart of Henderson Nevada, this cute 18 hole course is nestled between Sun City Anthem and the Greater Green Valley area. Even with temperatures rising above 100, this golf course provides accommodations to keep you cool as you hit the back 9."

"I'm FAR from even being considered a good golfer, but this course was very fun to play, and well worth the price. I paid $65.00 for 18 holes, including a cart and rental clubs. The entertainment was free, as I was teamed up with three guys I had never met, but made me feel like part of their group by the third tee.
I have to give a shout-out to KC, John, and Phil for the banter and excellent tips on the course. I was apprehensive about even scheduling the tee time, being a beginner golfer, but they put me right at ease and are an asset to the course.
Being January, the course was well kept, and you can tell that the regulars care about the place, replacing divots, repairing greens and raking the traps. The pro shop staff was friendly and welcoming, even though they had leagues starting at about the same time as me.
It's a short course, as advertised with only par 3 and 4 holes, it's fun to play, and I can imagine it would be a slight challenge to even avid players.
I highly recommend giving it a try!"

Choosing Your Course: Firecliff vs. Mountain View
The Mountain View Course, on the other hand, offers a more relaxed and forgiving round. While still scenic and enjoyable, it's generally considered more accessible for beginners and those seeking a less intense golfing experience. Its par-60 design makes for a quicker round, allowing more time to enjoy the desert surroundings.
When deciding, consider your golfing ability and what you hope to gain from your round. If you're looking for a challenge and a chance to test your game, Firecliff is the choice. If you're a beginner, a casual golfer, or simply want to enjoy the scenery at a more leisurely pace, Mountain View is likely the better option.
Navigating Pace of Play and Course Etiquette
To ensure a smoother round, it's advisable to book the earliest tee times, especially on weekends, to avoid potential backups. Being prepared with your next shot, keeping up with the group ahead, and being mindful of your own pace are crucial elements of good golf etiquette. If you're a beginner, communicating with your playing partners and being aware of your surroundings can also help maintain a good flow.
Remember that golf is a game of patience and enjoyment. While a quick pace is desirable, embracing the social aspect and the beautiful desert environment can make even a slightly slower round a positive experience.
Desert Willow's Amenities and Recent Updates
Recent updates have focused on enhancing the playing experience, particularly on the Firecliff Course. The installation of new Mini Verde Bermudagrass greens aims to provide superior turf quality and a more consistent putting surface. Tee boxes have also been reshaped and leveled for optimal play.
It's worth noting that some amenities, such as the restaurant, have experienced periods of closure. While the cart girl service is often praised for providing refreshments on the course, it's wise to check the current operational status of all facilities before your visit to manage expectations.
