What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Point Lookout Vineyards is highly praised for its absolutely spectacular mountain views and friendly, helpful staff. Visitors love the pet-friendly atmosphere and the relaxing ambiance, making it a great spot to unwind. While the wine tasting experience has received some criticism regarding the serving method and lack of guidance, the overall scenery and welcoming environment make it a worthwhile visit.
"Absolutely love the spectacular views, staff is so friendly & helpful in choosing a wine, food is available -we purchased a cheese plate. My husband & I played some card games and really enjoyed the afternoon. 🙂 Point Lookout is pet friendly - on a leash- we don't have a pet-and they even have a cute book exchange stand- I forgot to take a picture."

"I recently visited Point Lookout Vineyards while celebrating my birthday in Hendersonville, and it was such a wonderful experience. I especially enjoyed the Petit Verdot and Cabernet—both were excellent.
The views are absolutely amazing, and I loved that the vineyard is pet-friendly so I could bring my dog along while traveling. It’s such a great spot to relax, sip wine, and take in the peaceful mountain scenery.
I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in the area!"

"I came here for wine tasting this past week. Lovely location with a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere, and beautiful views of the rolling hills all around the winery. There is both inside and outside seating. The outside seating includes lounge chairs and tables with chairs. The inside has picnic tables, and plastic tables and a register at one end where they have the wine bottles from which they pour. There is no centralized feeling to the place such as a tasting counter, which I heard other people express disappoint in. There is a nice viewpoint outside that people use for weddings. I really appreciate that they have vegetarian gluten-free pizza (along with the usual regular pizza choices) available. Not the best, but still nice to have something filling on the menu. They also have nuts and chocolate-covered raisins, as well as chocolate truffles available for $3 a piece. I had a wine flight and was disappointed by the fact that they don't have any sort of guided selection of wines. They hand you a paper and tell you to choose 5 wines and one mead like you would choose toppings for a deli sandwich. So, no input or discussion on their wines. The next disappointment was that they served the tastings in shot glasses. Nothing like wine served in shot glasses to break the fun wine experience you were going for. It felt more like going to a college students' house where they were missing the proper stemware.
I was hoping the wine itself would make up the other disappointments. However, I didn't taste anything good enough to buy. Sadly, their reds are acidic and unbalanced and their whites are not worth getting as a full glass. There was no smoothness to their Cabernet or Malbec that you expect in good wine. In all, I'd say skip the wine tasting. Order a single glass so at least you can drink it in a proper wine glass and enjoy the gorgeous views. Don't expect to be wowed by their wines."

The Wine Experience: Beyond the Views
Despite these critiques, specific wines like the Petit Verdot and Cabernet have been highlighted as enjoyable. However, some reviewers found the reds to be acidic and unbalanced, and the whites not particularly noteworthy. For those who prefer a more relaxed approach, ordering a single glass of wine to enjoy while taking in the views is often recommended over a full tasting flight. This allows you to savor the atmosphere without the potential disappointment of the tasting selection.
For those seeking alternatives to wine, Point Lookout Vineyards also offers meads and brews, providing options for a wider range of preferences. The availability of food, including vegetarian and gluten-free pizzas, further enhances the visitor experience, making it a pleasant spot for an afternoon outing even if wine isn't your primary focus.

The ability to have your pet by your side while you relax and enjoy a glass of wine or the breathtaking views adds a significant layer of enjoyment for many visitors. It transforms the outing from a solo or couple's activity into a complete family experience, including your four-legged members. This inclusivity is a major draw and sets Point Lookout apart from many other wineries.
When visiting with pets, remember to be considerate of other guests by keeping your dog leashed and cleaning up after them. The vineyard's commitment to being pet-friendly means you can truly unwind and create lasting memories with your entire family, furry friends included, amidst the beautiful North Carolina landscape.
