What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Highlands Plateau Greenway is appreciated for its effort to connect town amenities with natural beauty, offering accessible walks to spots like Mirror Lake and scenic overlooks. However, visitors frequently point out issues with inconsistent and confusing signage, which can detract from the experience. Despite these navigational challenges, the natural scenery and the concept of an urban trail network are generally well-received.
"The Highlands Greenway includes a network of lush trails that also utilizes some streets to connect you to beautiful spots through town. The hike from downtown to Mirror Lake is definitely worthwhile and takes you through the woods and onto small one-lane neighborhood streets, all without having to get in a car. Hint: when you are in the woods you may get a little turned around — don’t worry about it you will pop out onto Foreman Rd, The Rec Park, or Oak street and can easily find your way back to town without walking very far."

"Walk Main Street sidewalks out of town following the signs to Library and Nature Center. Poorly mapped, poor/worthless signage. Some signs point to nothing, others have arrows pointing in wrong direction. Although pretty and unique the Botanical Garden trail starts at the Nature Center is a maze of intersecting paths with no intuitive direction. The Sathula mountain thing is ridiculous - a narrow one lane driveway that dead ends with no parking area. DON'T drive up it! No clear indication where one might park down in town to walk up the road. Sunrise mountain is a nice hike on dirt road with a nice view and does have a clearly defined parking area across from the Nature Center yet even there you have conflicting signage. For a town as wealthy and as busy as Highlands this is a pitiful attempt at an urban walking path system."
