"On Sunday Sept. 4, 1887, Long haired Commodore Perry Owens historic shootout with the Blevins gang happened here. The Blevins gang fled Texas on charges of murder & ended up in Holbrook rustling cattle & horses & also getting involved in the Pleasant Valley war by siding with the Grahams who were feuding with the half-breed Tewksbury’s over cattle and sheep resulting in numerous murders. Andy Blevin’s/Cooper, the leader of the Blevins gang was also accused of killing 3 Navajo ranchers nearby & stealing their horses. Andy & his little brother Sam and friend Mose Roberts were killed by Owens in the historic gun battle. Owens had also wounded Andys brother John in the 1 minute gun battle. Owens retired in Seligman, Az, his historic house & saloon still stand there. He was interred at Citizen’s Cemetery in Flagstaff, Az."
