Andrea and I hiked up Diamond Head yesterday. While the hike itself is quite easy, the heat and constant direct sun is an added challenge for pale faced northerners. I generally prefer places with smaller crowds, but the views up top were well worth it. Bucket list item checked off. #diamondhead #oahu #statemonument #diamondheadhike #diamondheadcrater #hawaii #hike #hiking

Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the breathtaking panoramic views from the summit of Diamond Head, calling it a 'must-do' for its iconic status and rewarding scenery. While many find the hike manageable with preparation, some note it's more challenging than expected due to heat and steep sections. Advance reservations are essential, and early morning visits are recommended to avoid crowds and intense heat.

"I recommend going earlier in the day if you can to avoid it getting too hot. The trail gets busy but is absolutely beautiful. An easy trail with a very rewarding view at the top! A must do!"

Anastasia Feschuk

"What an amazing hike. A bit challenging for individuals that never hiked or haven't hiked in a while. Reaching the top felt like an achievement and the view is so beautiful.
Took the bus, walked to the main entrance where the visitor center is located. Recommend hydrating the day before and the day before starting. Use the restroom before going since there are no restrooms along the trail. Hydrating and sun block are your best friends. Cooling towels or cooling shirt (UV shirt or rash guard shirt) and a hat help. Wetting the shirt and cooling towel helped reduce the heat fatigue.
Taking breaks along the way in certain areas allows for recharging. Wear very comfortable shoes with good grip will allow a comfortable hike and minimize back pain.
There are certain resting areas that allow a beautiful view of the city and the ocean."

"If you're planning to visit Diamond Head, make sure to purchase your entrance ticket and parking pass in advance—reservations open one week before your visit.

Booking early lets you choose the time slot you want. We reserved a morning slot between 6:00–8:00 AM.

We had hoped to see the sunrise, but by the time we arrived, the sun was already up. Still, the air was cool and refreshing. The hike was pleasant.

There’s a pizza food court nearby, and the parking lot is spacious. Be sure to arrive on time, as it's important to stick to your reserved schedule. The area gets very crowded, so you’ll likely have to stand in line to enter.

After the hike, we brought a morning lunchbox, found a bench, and enjoyed it while taking in the fresh mountain air.

It takes about 15 minutes by car from Waikiki, making it a convenient and worthwhile early-morning activity."
