What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Honolulu Museum of Art for its diverse and thoughtfully curated collections, especially its Asian art galleries and serene courtyards. Many appreciate the uncrowded atmosphere, allowing for close examination of the artworks. The on-site cafe is a delightful surprise, and combining a visit with Shangri La offers exceptional value and cultural depth.
"I wish I could have spent all day here. I actually enjoyed it more than the MoMA! Uncrowded, you could get up close to each painting and spend as long as you wanted admiring each brush stroke. Loved the couple of Georgia O'Keeffe paintings. It's truly a multi-cultural collection, I was blown away by the Asian galleries, and I admire how each statue was given enough room to breathe. Nothing feels over-crowded, so each one has time to sink in. Loved the temporary collections, the photographs, the Japanese prints, the Mediterranean courtyard, and the live music on Friday night. If I ever come back to Hawaii I'll be sure to visit again!"

"Although this museum may not be as large as some others, it offers a thoughtfully curated experience that is both rich and rewarding. The combination of modern and contemporary art exhibitions allows visitors to gain meaningful insights, especially for those with a genuine interest in the arts. Every corner invites you to slow down and truly appreciate the beauty and depth of the works on display.
And don’t miss the café — it’s a hidden gem! Whether you're looking to relax after the exhibition or simply enjoy a peaceful moment, the cozy atmosphere and well-crafted drinks make it well worth the visit. Highly recommended for anyone seeking inspiration and a fresh perspective."
