What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the stunning panoramic views from the Continental Divide and the beauty of the surrounding Rocky Mountains. The Crystal Lake Trail is a popular hiking destination, offering rewarding scenery. Many appreciate the scenic drive and the opportunity for stargazing, though some caution about the high altitude and the need for preparation.
"Some great hikes from here up to Crystal Lake but be prepared for the high altitude if you are not used to it. It is also always a good idea to take water with you."
Steve Hartig
"Intended this as a quick stop, but there was a nice trail we hiked in on for a couple of miles. Plenty of snow at the end of May as well, 2-3 feet deep off trail. Trail did get a little wet in places from that, but trail itself was mainly gravel and dirty Some elevation gain but it's very wide and could be used for vehicles if needed. No public vehicle access after the parking lot though.
Although my dog and I only took the first couple of miles out and back, this trail appeared to continue around the mountain and over to the next one, so there's probably a decent half day hike here. I wish we had had more time to explore. It was plenty busy though (memorial day weekend)."

"This is a pretty good drive outside of Breckenridge if you are in town visiting. The drive is full of beautiful views up to the pass and the trail at the White River National Forest. It is well worth the drive and taking a few minutes to walk into the forest. The snow was pretty packed down along the trail at the time and didnt even need snowshoes."
