Horsethief Butte — black stone, golden grass, and history deeper than most of us realize. 🌾🪨 This is where Celilo Falls once roared, the oldest continuously inhabited village in North America. People lived and fished here for at least 10,000 years, maybe even 35,000. Floods a thousand feet high carved this butte in moments, revealing the basalt bones of the Gorge. Petroglyphs remain. "Pretty great hike. There is an easy version and a difficult version. We did the easy path and then accidentally got off onto the difficult path. The views were absolutely amazing. We were lucky and have really fantastic weather. Amazing view of the river. Does require a Discover Pass to park, which we have, but the day we visited, the park pass was not required. There are a few weekends thro9the summer where passes are not required. Definitely doable with kids or older people. Worth your time to check out. Theyhave bathroomsif you dare to use them."

"A beginner friendly crag just across the gorge in WA. The views are incredible. Weather is well suited most of the year, except winter.

Some of routes have bolts at the top for setting up anchors. Rest of it is pretty much trad. If you are looking for a trad beginners climbing area, horse thief would be perfect"

"Great location for rock, climbing opportunities. Decent amount of parking, there is a permanent restroom in the parking area."
