The lovingly restored house and peaceful grounds offer an inspiring glimpse into Whitman's early years, making it a worthwhile destination for literary enthusiasts and history buffs alike. "Loved it! Went on a whim and had a great time! Tour Guide Barbara was amazing and knowledgeable and really personable. The site is small and beautiful and it’s easy to see how it inspired some of his poetry. It’s 100% worth a visit."

Francesca Miller

"Beautiful Dutch-style farm house where Walt Whitman (1819-1892) was born. Even though Whitman lived here only during the first four years of his life (when the family moved to Brooklyn), the house provides a good impression of the surroundings that Whitman faced during those four years. The house is lovingly restored. Very informative tour guide. The adjacent Interpretive Center provides an informative exhibition on Whitman and a nice gift store. I also liked the understated architecture of the Interpretive Center. For Whitman fans I can also recommend a visit to the Walt Whitman House in Camden, New Jersey, where Whitman lived during the last years of his life. Whitman is also buried in Camden and you can find his family tomb at the Harleigh Cemetery in Camden."

"A hidden gemstone, really worth a visit! You see a lovingly compiled exhibition about the famous writer and later you visit his birthhouse with a very skilled guide, who tells you everything you need and want to know. Admission is only 10 Dollar. Of course you can even buy books here and there are occasionally events in the museum."
