What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the absolutely gorgeous and peaceful views at Hells Canyon Overlook, calling the drive incredibly scenic and worth the effort. While some note the river isn't directly visible, the sheer vastness and beauty of the gorge are universally awe-inspiring. The accessible picnic area is a welcome amenity for all.
"This overlook is a short drive off of the Hells Canyon-Wallowa Mountains back country scenic drive and is well worth the stop. We continued on down the dirt road and camped with a great view of both the canyon and the mountains. This area of public land is heavily forested with deep canyons and rushing streams. There are several developed campgrounds and a ton of free dispersed camping. Most of the camp sites we saw were clean, but there was some trash that we cleaned up. We saw some deer and there are elk, bears, moose and other wildlife that live in this area. I would highly recommend doing the drive and spending a few days camping out here. You won't be disappointed!"

"Amazing place. It's amazing to witness the sheer vastness and beauty of what Mother Nature provides! This is the deepest gorge in all of the US, although you can't quite see it from here. The river is in another valley in the distance, but this view is remarkable nonetheless.
To be honest, I was a tad disappointed that there was not a river view at first. That quickly went away with the awe of the surroundings."
