What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Jackson Cross Country for its beautiful scenery, well-groomed trails, and friendly staff, making it a great family-friendly destination. While the rental gear quality is a recurring point of concern for some, the overall value and enjoyable experience on the diverse trails are highly recommended.
"Good place to come ski. My friend and I started with a lesson from on of the ladies there. She was great and taught us well! The ski rentals are not the greatest but they worked. I highly recommend getting on the trails before 9am because they are freshly groomed and it's not very busy.
When you arrive, go to the window at top to pay. I guess we weren't clear because we bought a lesson package and three day rental but apparently our trail pass was only for a day. I didn't realize this until we were on the trails the second day and I happened to notice someone's pass looked different than ours. Of the 3 days we were out there, we were only stopped one day and had our trail pass checked but they are out there checking them so make sure you receive the proper pass.
The trails are pretty well marked. We skied about 3 hours each day which was a good amount of time. We had other activities planned such as snowmobiling, horse drawn carriage ride, and exploring the area.
We also went snowshoeing. The snowshoe rentals are terrible. Especially if you don't have massive boots. We made do but had to stop several times to fix them or strap them back on. Also, as they let us know 29 times, make sure to get your rentals back by 3:30 even though they close at 4. I mean, if I arrived at 4:15, wouldn't they just charge me an extra day and that would be my own fault?
Anyway, snowshoe trails were clearly marked too (at least the one we did was). I had snowshoed 30 years ago in the Army and it was good to replace that memory with this one. Lol Much more fun, despite the gear issues.
They were still pretty scared of covid there with a bunch of signs telling you where and where not to go that was kind of confusing. Everything was separated and strict. Good thing you don't spend too much time inside! The trails running along the river were pretty and it was lovely hearing the running water.
On a side note, if you are staying in the area, I highly recommend staying at The Wentworth in the Amster Cottage. It's the closest you can get to the ski center and it was literally ski in ski out.
If they had better ski and snowshoe rentals, I'd give this place 5 stars!"

"First time XC Skiing and it was fantastic! Helpful and friendly staff, well groomed trails, good rentals, and the trail running along the river was beautiful. Cocoa Hut (with a hot cocoa stand) and the outdoor fire were a nice touch too! Can't wait to go back."

"Cross country skiing & snowshoeing in the amazingly beautiful white mountin scenery. The trails are nicely groomed with options for every level of skier. Find the warming hut for some hot chocolate and cookies. It was a perfect round trip for our group, about 5km, I believe. Great family-friendly environment, helpful, cheerful, and pleasant people running the operation. Everything is reasonably priced."
