What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Northwest Arena for its well-maintained main ice rink, friendly staff, and cleanliness, making it a great spot for hockey tournaments and family ice skating. The adjacent National Comedy Center is a major highlight. However, some note that the auxiliary rink has less ideal lighting and minor maintenance issues, and gluten-free food options are limited.
"In town for an adult 35 and over hockey tournament. The main rank is very nice. The r. Auxiliary rank is not at the same standard. The lighting on that side is not ideal. It's a little, especially when compared to the main rink. The locker rooms for the most part were good. One had a sloping issue so water from the shower can come into the locker room #8.
They do have a refreshment area and behind it is a bar area. Prices there were reasonable and they did have a TV with sporting events on.
There is a track that rings around the main rink if you're looking for some exercise."

"This is a really nice arena. Two rinks inside, one with tons of nice seating for games and the other with minimal seating for open skate, practices etc. they have ice bumper cars which I want to try very much but are never running on the days I happen to be going. Decent snack bar with tons of seating though I wish they had gluten free options. Also a bar though I didn’t check that out myself. Some arcade games. The walking track around the larger rink is my favorite thing. Parking is limited but it’s in a cute little area of downtown Jamestown."

Consider visiting during public skate times for a relaxed family activity. The walking track is also a great way for younger children to burn off energy in a safe, indoor environment.
🏒 Hockey Enthusiasts
If you're attending a tournament, be prepared for a lively atmosphere. While the main rink is top-tier, be aware that the auxiliary rink has some limitations in terms of lighting and maintenance. Check the event schedule for upcoming tournaments to catch some exciting local hockey action.

Navigating the Rinks: Main vs. Auxiliary
In contrast, the auxiliary rink serves more for practices and open skate with less seating. While functional, its lighting is noted as 'not ideal,' and some minor maintenance issues, like water drainage in locker rooms, have been reported. For the best ice experience, aim for events held on the main rink.
When planning your visit, consider the type of event you're attending. If it's a major tournament or a popular public skate, you'll likely be on the superior main rink. For casual practice or open skate, the auxiliary rink will suffice, but be prepared for a slightly less polished environment.
More Than Just Ice: Arena Amenities
For refreshments, the arena has a snack bar with a decent selection of food and drinks, as well as a separate bar area for adults. While the snack bar is convenient, some visitors have noted a lack of gluten-free options.
Additionally, the arena sometimes features ice bumper cars, a fun activity for all ages, though their availability can be inconsistent. Arcade games are also present, adding to the entertainment options. The overall atmosphere is friendly and professional, with staff often described as helpful and the venue kept very clean.

Visitors rave about the center, calling it 'priceless' and a 'must-see' for comedy enthusiasts. The interactive exhibits and comprehensive collection delve into the evolution of comedy across various mediums.
While the arena itself focuses on ice sports and events, the proximity to the National Comedy Center makes Jamestown a dual-destination spot. You can easily combine an ice skating session or hockey game with a visit to this acclaimed comedy museum for a well-rounded day of entertainment.
