Accessible for the Colby Canyon Trail or the Josephine Fire road, the hike up on both of those are wonderful. "Rating probably depends on conditions and time of day. I started the hike around 10:30 and the best part was the show of native flowers on display once you get past the explosion of invasive Spanish broom, but the view at the top, while impressive, was paired with a relatively unimpressive summit location. Was it worth a 4 mile trek one way in the sun? I don’t know, but I’ve been on nicer hikes. I’ve seen photos where the cloud cover is still visible shrouding the valley below, so. I think coming out much earlier in the morning is probably the move.
Some reviews mention needing an adventure pass—there is no signage around the trailhead that mentions this and I wasn’t cited for not having a pass. There is a pass vending machine at the nearby bathroom area but as of May 2024 it is not working,"

"What a gem! Very easy terrain all the way up, free (no adventure pass needed) parking at the trail head, 360 degree views into the back country and out over all of Los Angeles and the Pacific, and almost no one else on the trail. What's not to love. I will be back again and again while it's still cool. Hardly any shade and can get windy so dress appropriately."
