What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors are captivated by the spectacular coastline and the profound historical significance of Kuamo'o Battlefield and Lekeleke Burial Ground. Many appreciate it as a peaceful escape from tourist crowds, offering a chance to connect with nature and ancient Hawaiian culture. However, the rugged lava rock terrain requires sturdy footwear, and caution is advised due to powerful ocean waves near the unprotected cliffs.
"We were told this was a good morning walk down from the Sheraton. After the bit of a walk on a busy road, we made our way past a small placard and into the field of rock itself. There was a small amount of space to park a car, but it was impossible to drive into the Grounds themselves. After a very light hike in over lava rock, the views were spectacular, and the coastline view here was stunning. We did see a few people taking a running leap into the water on the far side, but it didn't look like a safe decision - not enough overhang and no solid way up where the waves weren't crashing against the rock. That aside, there were some wonderful areas to scramble along the coastline, with stunning views. Wear GOOD shoes . (I didn't and I dealt with the blisters for the rest of my trip.) It is worth noting that there is private property accessible at the end of the gravel road - which should be respected. I also saw some goats near the coastline. They were adorable and relaxed. (We did not approach the wildlife, of course.)
