This station was built in the days when passenger rail was king for travelers, and train travel was portrayed as glamorous and exciting. Wikipedia lists the construction date of the station as 1945, replacing a station dating to 1887.
This station is on the former Santa Fe Super Chief route, which ran from Chicago to Kansas City, and on to Albuquerque and Los Angeles. That route was well known for the number of Hollywood luminaries who traveled to and from L.A. via the Super Chief, which was the railroad's flagship passenger train.
Platform operations here were efficient for boarding or exiting the train; the stationmaster was friendly. If you want food or drink items before boarding, visit the Casey's (convenience store) just up the street."
