What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise St. John Cemetery for its breathtaking grounds, historic church, and serene atmosphere. Many appreciate the well-maintained landscape, ancient trees, and the sense of peace it offers for remembrance. While generally positive, some visitors note the vastness can make finding specific graves challenging without a map or locator.
"My family has a history with the cemetery - my mother, her sister and my grandparents and their families are buried here. When my brother passed away unexpectedly, St Johns was more than willing to accommodate him being buried according to his wishes - with my mother and grandmother.
The grounds and landmark status church are breathtaking. It is a welcoming place - the large oak trees, shrubbery, statues, the Cathedral and chapel are truly inspirational as well as historical.
Deacon Arceneaux delivered a beautiful eulogy - considering he had not met my brother and only spoke to 2 family members (my brother had 5 siblings) in order to prepare. He truly hit the most relevant and important matters of concern to my deceased brother, and I was happy to speak with him briefly after the service.
I feel that my brother's final wishes were fulfilled to the letter, and left with the feeling that his resting place will be cause for my family to make regular visits.
For various reasons, I had to return to retrieve something that I left on the altar a few days later. The staff was very helpful, taking me back to the Chapel, and providing a map of his location so that I could visit the grave and say my goodbyes before my journey back to Los Angeles. I am grateful and appreciative of all the efforts made to see that my brother was buried according to his wishes."
