What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Guests appreciate the peaceful atmosphere and picturesque lake views, offering a serene escape. However, some find the room access via garden paths inconvenient and privacy concerns due to window placement. The lodge's classic charm is noted, but some rooms may feel dated and lack modern amenities.
"5 stars for the peacefulness I had during my stay. That was the best (and most important) aspect for me, and it did not disappoint.
3 stars for the ridiculously dumb way of getting to said peaceful room, i.e., the gardens. Into the lobby, around the main sitting area, down the steps (no ramp for suitcases), to the left of HK's restaurant, and out the door to the garden path, and then finding your way to one of the rooms.
Unfortunately, the rooms have their huge glass doors and windows facing the walking path of the gardens, and it's quite disconcerting seeing strangers peering into your room while you're laying down. Of course, the curtains aren't long enough to cover the door/windows, and are extremely sheer. Expect to manuever things around to block the window.
If you're lucky enough to cover the door, expect to spend upwards of 2-3 minutes to find the edge of the stupid curtains to even find the door opening. Props to you if you can close the door as you leave without getting the curtains caught in the door.
Lighting was pretty minimal in the room, and not enough towels and t.p. were provided for a party of 4 for a two night stay.
Fall hazard If you do venture around the gardens, it's quite charming, but not well-maintained, and has a considerable slope of steps towards the lake side of the gardens.
Staff was welcoming and friendly."

"We stayed here this past weekend. At checkin, I asked if our room had a view of the lake, it had a king size bed. Katie said no but that we have a room with 2 double beds that has a great view and its $30 cheaper. So we took the room with 2 double beds. We had dinner at HK's and everything was good. We went to eat breakfast at HK's the next morning but stood at the entrance for a good 10 minutes with no assistance. The restaurant wasnt busy so not sure what the problem was but we went somewhere else to eat.
The property needs an upgrade overall and there wasn't a microwave in the room. I thought I had downgraded my room and expected the bill to be about $258 plus tax. I've since been charged $323 and to be honest the hotel wasn't that nice for that price. Especially since there wasn't a microwave in our room and the pool was all the was across the hotel.
I did speak to Robert the manager, who very nice. But I probably won't be back."

"My husband and I have never woke up in that much pain from a bed before. It was bad ya’ll. 😩 We are in our early 30s and only had issues for the 2 nights we stayed.
I feel the main purpose of a hotel is to rest at night, so this alone is a 1 star.
The staff was very welcoming & attentive.
Wish our DoorDasher would be been allowed up to our room to drop off our meal the first night because we were absolutely exhausted. Maybe it is standard, we just normally don’t experience issues with that.
We visited in the fall/winter, & did not try any amenities. Hotel looks & smells outdated but all seemed clean. The shower didn’t seem to have a vent fan so all the steam built up on the walls just runs down in streams. I didn’t visibly see mold but that doesn’t mean there is none with that much moisture trapped in such a small space."

Room Access and Privacy Concerns
Furthermore, some guests have expressed discomfort with the privacy of their rooms. Large glass doors and windows facing these garden paths mean strangers can potentially see into the rooms. While curtains are provided, they may not be long enough to fully cover the glass, and their sheer nature offers limited obstruction. Maneuvering furniture or using personal items to block views might be necessary for some guests seeking more privacy.
It's also worth noting that lighting in rooms can be minimal, and the supply of towels and toilet paper might be insufficient for longer stays or larger groups, suggesting guests should be prepared to request additional items.
The Golf Experience at Wildfire
Players can expect a well-maintained course that challenges golfers of all skill levels. The natural beauty of the surroundings enhances the game, making it a memorable outing. It's advisable to book tee times in advance, particularly during peak seasons, to secure your preferred slot.
Beyond the greens, the lodge itself is situated in a location that appeals to those who enjoy outdoor recreation. The proximity to the lake and the resort's amenities contribute to a well-rounded vacation for golf lovers.
Dining at HK's Restaurant
While the food at HK's generally receives positive remarks, some guests have reported less-than-ideal service experiences, particularly during breakfast hours, where they felt unattended. This suggests that while the culinary offerings are appreciated, consistency in service might be an area for improvement.
For those planning a celebratory meal, making a reservation at HK's is a recommended step to ensure a smooth and enjoyable dining experience.
