Reviews Summary

Lanesboro's historic downtown is celebrated for its charming atmosphere, well-preserved architecture, and the engaging Lanesboro Heritage Museum, which is a free hidden gem. Visitors appreciate the friendly locals and the scenic Root River State Trail, making it a delightful small-town escape. Some find the town quiet outside of festival times, and dining options, while pleasant, are limited.

"This is a great place for people who want to learn more about Lanesboro and its history. As someone who had no idea about the region and it's history, I learned a lot. I agree with some of the other reviewers said, it is a hidden gem here in Lanesboro. What I loved about this museum is how they used their collections from the community to tell the story and history of the area. The guy at the desk was very knowledgeable about Lanesboro and extremely friendly and even told me some things that I didn't know. I think this is a great stop if you love history and want to know more about the community and the area around it!"

"This little museum is a hidden gem in downtown Lanesboro. It’s small, but packed with interesting exhibits about the town’s history—everything from local businesses and railroads to school life and farming. You can tell the volunteers and curators care a lot about preserving the stories of the area.

I really enjoyed the vintage photos and artifacts, and there’s a cool model of the town that shows what it looked like years ago. It doesn’t take a ton of time to go through, but it’s definitely worth stopping in if you’re in town. Great way to learn about Lanesboro’s roots and appreciate how much has been preserved!"

"Excellent little museum with much information about Buffalo Bill Cody. Many rare and interesting antiques and documents. Loved the human hair weavings and autographed baseball! Great, fun little stop! Even an old phone booth out front."
