What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Golden Gate for its unbeatable historic charm, prime Fremont Street location, and lively atmosphere. Many enjoy the unique experience of staying in the oldest hotel in Las Vegas. However, some find the rooms to be very small and noisy, especially those facing the street, and note the absence of live table games.
"This is my favorite casino in all of downtown. The atmosphere is great, the servers are awesome. I always come here when I am in vegas. It has all the old school charm. Just wish they didn't do away with the table games. Playing craps here was great. The dealers were always fun and friendly. I have never stayed here so I can't comment on the rooms."
Kim Leland
"The rooms are super small but true to the original casino. The service waa great and the location is good for freemont street. If its just you or you and your significant other I would recommend. You dont spend that much time in the room anyway at Vegas. The casino does not have any table games but you are close to other casinos."
Kayla Creek
"I absolutely loved this hotel. This was my first stay on freemont street. The location of this hotel is perfect. I was asked if I want a room facing the freemont street or no. I said yes. They informed me that it does stay loud until 2am. They weren't kidding haha but honestly I loved that. Felt like part of the experience. The rooms are small. The bathroom is tiny. But what do you expect from the oldest hotel in vegas?! The room was clean. Felt safe. My only complaint was that the AC doesnt really cool the room enough. But other than that it was all perfect. I will totally come back and stay in this hotel and will face the freemony street again. Loved every moment!!!"

A Journey Through Time: The History of Golden Gate
Over the decades, the hotel has undergone several transformations and name changes, eventually becoming the Golden Gate Casino. It has retained much of its vintage charm and historic character, a stark contrast to the modern mega-resorts on the Strip. This commitment to preserving its past is evident in its decor, the preservation of original artifacts, and the unique historical tours offered to guests.
Today, the Golden Gate stands as a testament to Las Vegas's evolution, offering a unique blend of old-school Vegas allure and modern amenities. It's a place where you can feel the speakeasy vibes and imagine the stories held within its walls, making it a must-visit for anyone interested in the city's rich heritage.
Navigating the Rooms: Historic Charm vs. Modern Comfort
For those seeking more space and contemporary amenities, the suites offer a modern upgrade. These rooms typically feature updated bathrooms, more spacious layouts, and enhanced comfort. Guests who have stayed in both types often recommend trying a historic room for a night to experience the unique atmosphere, and then perhaps moving to a suite for greater comfort.
Regardless of the room type, it's important to manage expectations regarding size, especially in the historic accommodations. As one reviewer noted, 'You don't spend that much time in the room anyway at Vegas.' The prime location on Fremont Street often makes up for any perceived shortcomings in room size.
The Fremont Street Experience: A Sensory Overload
Staying in a room that faces Fremont Street means embracing the vibrant nightlife. While some find the constant music and activity until 2 AM to be a drawback, others describe it as an integral part of the authentic downtown Las Vegas experience, making them feel 'part of the experience.'
Beyond the immediate hotel, the Fremont Street Experience offers a concentrated dose of entertainment, dining, and gambling, with numerous casinos and attractions within easy walking distance. It's a different vibe from the Strip, often described as more gritty, historic, and perhaps more accessible for budget-conscious travelers.
