"Sanders Mound, as well as the North Shore Trail at Clinton are great areas for all ages.
There is a playground, volleyball sand pit, as well as a horseshoe area. Two pavilions with lots of picnic tables. Even a built in BBQ pit.
You can go into the forest among the trees, or follow the paved trail.
The forested path is extremely uneven, oftentimes rocky. For those who are not sure footed, it is not recommended. However, it is beautifully shaded and peaceful. Many varying trails to follow as well. Some will take you relatively close to the lake.
In the years that my family and I have been spending time out there, we have run across a few snakes, many lizards and birds. The ticks and the mosquitoes can be rather annoying. Especially if there has been a lot of rain. Speaking of which, if there has been a ton of rain, many of the trails are flooded.
