What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Jell-O Gallery Museum for its charming presentation of a unique piece of American history. The friendly and knowledgeable staff, along with the engaging scavenger hunt, make it a delightful experience for all ages. While not a large museum, its unique focus and unexpected historical exhibits, like vintage cars, make it a highly recommended stop for those in the area.
"Me and a friend were leaving Letchworth State Park headed to Rochester and passed through Le Roy. I decided to stop and visit the Jell-O Museum.
Mary and Donna were working and we were given a brief history. I had no idea that jello originated here and the history is quite interesting.
History: Jell-O's history in Le Roy, NY, began in 1897 when carpenter Pearle Bixby Wait trademarked the dessert after combining sugar, gelatin, and fruit flavoring. Unable to market it successfully, Wait sold the rights in 1899 for $450 to Orator Woodward, who, through aggressive national advertising, grew the Genesee Pure Food Company into a major business. The Jell-O Company remained in Le Roy until 1964, when production moved to Dover, Delaware. Today, the Jell-O Gallery Museum, owned by the Le Roy Historical Society, celebrates this local history.
They have a very nice gift shop with really nice t-shirts and hats etc. We had a great time at this museum and I enjoyed doing the scavenger hunt yo get a prize.
We also went in basement to see all the old cars. I highly recommend visiting this wonderful museum if in the area."

"Visited this past weekend with my wife and two daughters. We enjoyed our entire visit. First we were given some history about Jello and its origins. Then my daughters were given a scavenger hunt that we worked on together. We found all the displays to be incredible. It’s not the biggest museum in the world , but it was definitely worth our ride from a few countries over to see. Great museum with wonderful individuals who work there. Five STARS for them. THANK YOU!!!!
P.S.
Included a picture of the historical house that the museum shares a driveway with. Plenty of parking out front and back there on a Sunday!!! 😊😊😊"

"Ann the museum guide was very helpful and informative. My wife and I visited here recently.
We learned that Jell-O was created here in Leroy. The museum was very informative about not only the history of Jell-O but also about the turn of 20th-century transportation and the town of Leroy.
I would recommend this museum for not only food history buffs but families as well."
