What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Fort Miles as a well-preserved WWII historical site offering a fascinating glimpse into coastal defense. Many highlight the knowledgeable staff and the poignant USS Arizona artifact. While the fort itself is a draw, its integration into the beautiful Cape Henlopen State Park enhances the overall experience, though some note that paid tours offer the most comprehensive understanding.
"We visited Fort Miles while in the park on Memorial Day. The museum was doing a free self guided partial tour of some of the rooms inside the bunker. There was a paid tour that day but we missed it. I would check the website to see what they are offering on any given day. If you are into WWII history it just US history in general this would be a good place to visit if you’re in the area. There is quite a good bit of information about the Fort’s importance in the war and beyond. There was no fee for admission on the day we visited, just the park admission but check the website for info on paid tours."

"Nicely preserved Delaware Bay fort in a breathtaking park. A lot of nature, sand, ocean... And cannons 😄 Worth spending half a day."

"Fort Miles is a hidden gem within Cape Henlopen State Park. For anyone with a passing interest in history, the Fort is a “real” facility from WWII, not a replica. Be sure and time your visit to take the tour offered by knowledgeable docents to get a better understanding of the history and significance of the Fort."
