Tips for Lewisburg Area?
Hey Y’all! My boyfriend and I are planning a long weekend trip to Lewisburg area, staying in an airbnb a little way out of town. We are interested in kayaking, swimming holes, and hiking trails with some good views. Any recommendations or local spots that we should hit? Thanks!
Has anyone been to Island Ford Cave in Covington?
Friend and I want to go caving but want to make sure this isn’t just a 10 minute walk around and leave. Four hours drive time for that would be a bummer. Any other cavers here interested in joining/know of other places to go?

Unguided spelunking in Maryland or Virginia
Only one I'm aware of is Lost World Caverns in Lewisburg, WV. They give you a flashlight and a map, and say, “Have fun. Don’t die.” (Kidding about the don’t die part.) That said, the cave is lit and has clearly marked pathways and some stairs in it. But it’s nice to be able to…

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Lost World Caverns for its stunning geological formations, affordability, and family-friendly atmosphere. The self-guided tour is well-organized and informative, while the gem mining activity is a highlight for children. Some minor maintenance issues like burnt-out lights were noted, but these did not detract significantly from the overall positive experience.
"A great caverns from start to finish. The path was easy to follow with handrails 90% of the time. There are quite a few stairs but also a few shortcuts if you need to shorten your trek. Description plaques are provided throughout the walking path and overall, the caverns isn't too dark. I would recommend at least a sweatshirt or a second layer. Don't forget to mine for gems and check out the display of amazing fossils!"

"Lost World Caverns is a small operation, but it offers big experiences for both kids and adults. The admission prices are very reasonable, and the staff take their time to make visitors feel welcome and well informed. Because the entrance fee was so affordable, we ended up buying quite a few souvenirs in the gift shop.
Our children especially loved the gem mining activity, where they could search for stones in a gold-panning style setup, it was both fun and educational. Overall, Lost World Caverns provides great value and a memorable experience for the whole family."

"This is one of the neatest caves I've visited - it's a wet cave with some stunning formations and a self-guided tour path. The path was labelled really well with lots of signs detailing the history and special features. The gift shop is large and also features a small natural history museum with some fossils and models. The price of admission is great, this place is absolutely worth a visit!"
