Lake Del Valle

Hidden gem of the east bay. Short drive, but you feel fully surrounded by nature. Great lakeside hiking. I know they used to rent Kayaks and boats too. Not sure of situation post covid.

Is Lake Del Valle worth the drive or skippable? I want to take my dogs somewhere in the morning but am picking between a couple of options. Are there options for a 2-3 mile hike that reaches the water?

One of my dogs had leg surgery almost a year ago, she is not very limited now but I do like to be mindful of it. Hoping for trail that isn't excessively steep or climbing up and down, reaches the water, seems like it has good sniffs, and bonus points if not typically crowded(ill…

Apparently, the Bay Area does have lots of natural places to swim, especially the warmer East Bay. Anyone been to any of these beaches and have any favorites?

I've only been to Del Valle, and only once at that, but I will say that it was super fun. Beautiful scenery of oak savannah and gray pines, lots of big mexican families having fun. Really felt like a day at the beach.

Visitors praise Del Valle Regional Park for its stunning natural beauty, diverse wildlife, and extensive trail system, making it a perfect escape. While many enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and recreational opportunities, some have noted issues with litter in certain areas, detracting from the otherwise pristine environment.

"Beautiful park, lots of wildlife. The drive up there is lovely as well. Great place to go if you want to get away from it all."

"Del Valle Regional Park is an absolute treasure tucked away in the rolling hills near Livermore — a perfect escape for nature lovers, hikers, and families alike! We’ve visited a few times now, and every trip feels like a mini vacation. The park is centered around the gorgeous Lake Del Valle, which offers stunning views and plenty of opportunities for kayaking, fishing, picnicking, or simply relaxing by the water.

This time, we explored more of the park’s amazing trail network and were blown away by the scenic beauty and peacefulness. The trails vary from easy lakeside strolls to more challenging hikes that reward you with breathtaking vistas of the lake and surrounding valleys. The elevation changes are moderate on most trails, making it accessible yet satisfying for hikers of all levels.

What we love most is how spacious and well-maintained the park is. There are ample shaded areas, quiet nooks to unwind, and even spots where you can see wildlife like deer and wild turkeys if you’re lucky. The calmness of the lake, framed by green hills, makes this place feel almost surreal.

Del Valle is also great for families — the picnic areas are perfect for group outings, and the swimming beach during summer months is a huge hit. Whether you’re in for a full-day hike or just want to soak up nature, this park delivers every time.

We’re already planning our next visit — there’s so much more to explore! Highly recommended for outdoor enthusiasts and anyone looking for a refreshing getaway close to the Bay Area. There’s a entry fee of $5 in weekdays and $10 for weekdays but it’s definitely worth it."
