What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the Eames House for its stunning mid-century modern architecture and its serene meadow setting. The guided tours are highly informative, offering deep insights into the lives and work of Charles and Ray Eames. Some visitors note that tickets sell out quickly and that the experience requires a certain level of quiet respect for the historic site.
"Great 90min tour. We learned a lot about the house and the materials used to built it. It's truly a beautiful site, right on a meadow by the ocean, so you can see why they loved it. Beautifully designed and furnished, as you can imagine. The tour was about 45min of history and 45min of walking around.
Don't be turned off by their terribly unfriendly website and emails, and the seemingly huge number of rules. They're pretty strict but if you get tickets ahead of time and know where to park, it's totally fine. They do have a fancy portable bathroom, in case you drove a while to get there. Just hope the weather holds up because there's truly no changing dates or cancelling with a refund."

"The Eames Foundation House. Simply one of the best design-forward experiences. The positioning of the property and preservation are very thought-provoking. The representatives of the Eames House are very welcoming and informative about the property. I had the pleasure of getting married at this home, it holds a special place in my heart! If you have the chance, don't think about it too much, just book your visit. You won't regret it, walk down the lawn and just stare at the Pacific coast, it has a charm."

"Magical afternoon exploring the home of Charles and Ray Eames, Case Study House #8, perched above the Pacific on a 1.5 acre lot in the Palisades. Great background and story on their life and design process for this house. Note: you can’t go into the house, it is an exterior tour only. Also to protect the fragility of the interior, you can’t take pictures of the interior, but they do open the door to let you look inside the 1500 sq ft home, each item exactly where Charles and Ray placed them when living there. I loved our 1.5 hours there, the Eames Foundation could even provide more curation, our tour guide was very knowledgeable but was very soft spoken. Maybe a wireless mic?
There is a bathroom and limited seating (two chairs) and walking on some uneven gravel paths without handrails (if you are or are coming with someone older or disabled, just know it is not accessible really)"

The preservation of the surrounding meadow was a deliberate choice by the Eameses, underscoring their belief in the importance of nature in everyday life.
