What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors love Fryman Canyon Park for its accessible trails, beautiful reservoir, and surprising pockets of nature within the city. Many appreciate the shaded paths and the opportunity for a peaceful escape. However, parking can be a significant challenge, and some visitors note the need for increased awareness regarding personal safety on certain trails.
"Nice workout. Get there early. Parking is limited if you want to use the lot. Got there around 8 am. on a Sunday, with zero issues getting a space. I did a 4 mile loop, and it easily could have been long. Steep in some parts. Compared to a treadmill, I say maybe a 5/6 incline. Seen 2 coyotes at the start, not crowded maybe seen 10 people within 2 hours. Definitely recommend."

"Me and Charlie my dog went first time on this trail. I hike a lot in this was totally one of the best ones. You can see lots of neighborhoods in LA. You can see the downtown lots of people walking with their dogs good people fun talks great walk."
Oz Harely Menaged
"I hiked Fryman Canyon's shaded loop, which feels surprisingly secluded compared to nearby Runyon Canyon. Tall oaks and live oaks created a canopy—cool even on warmer days. I spotted a tree swing hidden off the main trail, perfect for a quiet break. Only a few hikers passed me, mostly locals enjoying nature. Great for a midday calm escape"

Safety and Awareness
To ensure your safety, it's recommended to hike with a companion, especially if you are visiting alone. Stick to well-trafficked trails and be aware of anyone who seems to be following you. If you feel uncomfortable or unsafe, do not hesitate to leave the trail and seek out other park visitors or contact park authorities.
In addition to personal safety, always be prepared for the weather. Summer in Los Angeles can be extremely hot, so carrying plenty of water and wearing sun protection is crucial. Informing someone of your hiking plans, including your intended route and expected return time, is always a good practice.
