What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the fantastic views and the surreal feeling of being in a Hollywood movie scene. The accessibility from Lake Hollywood Park and the panoramic vistas at sunset are major highlights. However, parking can be difficult during peak times, and some find the roads narrow and winding.
"Fantastic drive and view at the top if you have a car or rental car. Lots of twists and turns. Google maps is fairly accurate.
Make sure just before you head up, grab a fruit bucket. Large for $12 US. And sauce it up with chamoy."

"If you’re looking for the perfect spot to enjoy a panoramic view of Los Angeles and snap a great photo with the iconic Hollywood sign in the background — this is the place. Hollywood View Point offers a fantastic vantage point, especially at sunset when the city lights start to twinkle and the sign looks straight out of a movie scene.
Getting there is fairly easy, though the final stretch of road winds a bit through the hills and can be narrow. There is parking available, but it can fill up during peak hours. Still, the view is absolutely worth it — you get that surreal feeling like you’re in a Hollywood film yourself.
The only downside is it can get crowded, especially during tourist season. But if you visit early in the morning or on a weekday evening, you can really take in the atmosphere peacefully.
Perfect for photo shoots, romantic moments, or just to pause and soak in the energy of the city."

"Best place to see the Hollywood sign close without getting on the trails to the actual sign. As a bonus you see a bit of the Hollywood hills neighborhoods. I feel a bit bad for the residents. Those streets are not meant for too much traffic, let alone parking (although traffic was minimal in a mid-August weekday afternoon). A few minutes wait time to be able to park in a designated spot without interfering"

Navigating to the Best Views
For those seeking a broader Los Angeles panorama that includes the sign, the areas around Griffith Observatory are excellent choices. These locations provide a stunning backdrop of the city skyline alongside the famous landmark. If you're up for a moderate walk, the Innsdale Trailhead offers a relatively short and family-friendly hike that brings you closer to the sign, with great photo opportunities along the way.
When planning your visit, remember that parking can be a significant factor. Many TikTok creators and Reddit users advise arriving early in the morning or on weekday evenings to avoid the biggest crowds and secure parking more easily. Using ride-sharing services is also a popular alternative to navigating the winding hills and potential parking scarcity.
Capturing the Perfect Hollywood Sign Photo
For a more dramatic effect, consider visiting during the golden hour – the period shortly after sunrise or before sunset. The warm, soft light can create a magical atmosphere, especially as the city lights begin to twinkle below. This timing not only enhances the visual appeal but can also help you avoid the harshest midday sun, which can wash out colors and create unflattering shadows.
Instagram Reels and TikTok videos often showcase creative angles and poses. Remember that the 'Instagram vs. Reality' aspect is real; achieving that perfect shot might take a few attempts and patience. Always be mindful of your surroundings and respect any posted signage to ensure a positive experience for everyone.
Hiking Options for All Levels
The duration of these hikes can vary. Some can be completed in about 1.8 miles round trip, while others might take 2-3 hours, especially when factoring in time for photos and enjoying the scenery. It's essential to wear comfortable athletic shoes, bring plenty of water, and wear sun protection, as the California sun can be intense. Be prepared for inclines, as the terrain leading to the sign is hilly.
While hiking offers a more immersive experience, it's important to note that attempting to climb on the sign itself is illegal and dangerous. Always stay on marked trails and respect the protected nature of this iconic landmark. If the weather is poor, such as during heavy rain, opting for a drive-to viewpoint like Lake Hollywood Park might be a more practical and safer choice.
