What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors appreciate the plentiful fishing, family-friendly swimming area, and scenic river views at Louisville State Recreation Area. However, the frequent and loud train horns throughout the night, along with a nearby industrial hum, significantly detract from the experience for many, especially tent campers. While staff are generally helpful, the noise is a recurring complaint.
"I wanted to like this campground so much! I had a great view of the river and the most of the other campers were very respectful. The low rating is solely based off the location.
I was looking for a same day tent spot. I tried Mahoney first, they were full so I was referred here. Upon arrival I thought this was going to be a great stay. The staff were fantastic and like I said before I got a great spot, and the campground was nicely maintained. Plenty of kids roaming around but they stuck to the roads and weren’t cutting thru campsites which is a win in my book! The water spouts are few and far between and not very visible. I had to pull up the campground map online to find the closest one to me.
What I didn’t know was how bad the location was since I didn’t read reviews like rookie. The campground is sandwiched between the river and the railroad tracks. The trains ran ALL night and blew their horns for the duration of passing the campground. I stayed off to the right hand side when you first enter the campground. I also didn’t know that there was a large concrete manufacturing plant open 24 hours that admitted a loud industrial electrical hum all night right beside the campground. Neither of these are conducive for tent camping. Hopefully the RVs have a better time. And since this was mainly an RV park the bathrooms were a hike!
Like I said before most of the campers were very respectful except for my direct neighbor. Bless their hearts. They got a wild hair up their butt around 1030pm and decided to bring out a LED rope light you could probably see from space (exaggeration) and turn on loud music. I went over and asked them to turn it down, which they couldn’t hear me over the speaker at first. But they were very nice about it and turned it down.
Tent camping 0/10 don’t recommend. Can’t say how the RV experience is. Happy Camping!"
