Who and Why would anyone ever take this? How does this cost make any sense?
It’s gotten so expensive. When it first started, they had a student rate that was something under $100. I’ve never taken a car on it. If you can go up to Manitowoc, the Badger has better rates. Also if they still do it, Lake Express has typically done a promo where you can…

Ferry travel in Lake Michigan
I am always a big fan of ferry traveling. I hope to try the Lake Michigan ferry in the summer. Looking up on some websites, the cost could be 700$ for a family of four to travel from Milwaukee to Michigan. The travel time seems quite long. I wonder whether there are some other…

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the SS City of Milwaukee as a unique and affordable 'Boatel' experience, praising its well-preserved historic charm and the freedom to explore. Many highlight the value for an overnight stay and the opportunity to step back in time. While cabins are compact and bathrooms shared, the overall atmosphere and historical significance make it a highly recommended destination for those seeking something different.
"Great place to stay for something different.
They need to update their pictures because it is so much more than what they post. There is a shared bathroom and no AC/heat, yes, but if you can get past those it is not to be missed (fan provided). Beds are small, but were surprisingly comfortable. Being able to sit out on deck and watch the water (they provide chairs), or hanging out and doing a game or puzzle (they provide) or dancing on deck under the stars (they provide the light and wifi, we provided the music from a phone) is a relaxing thing not found with a traditional hotel. They provide a free breakfast (carb heavy but with several options) and complimentary tea all day. Not handicapped friendly, but the atmosphere on the boat was a fun throwback. Not to be missed if you like to try something different!"

"The S.S.City of Milwaukee "Boatel" is really cool! My wife and I have seen it parked there in Manistee for years and always wanted to stop and check out the museum. so I searched it on Google and learned that you can book rooms for the night, what a cool idea!
We booked for the weekend, the rates are very affordable, the ship is well maintained and clean. a great overnight experience for sure. close to all of the area attractions and nearby restaurants.
What I found really awesome was being able to self tour the entire inside & outside of the ship at our own pace, sip coffee out on the deck or relax inside with plenty of seating areas. there is a breakfast area. there are rooms of different sizes to accommodate your needs. there were others that stayed at the same time, but it was so quiet, we barely knew they were there.
Definitely a cool new experience for my wife & I. We'll be back, I surely recommend an overnight stay!"
