What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the breathtaking panoramic views from Pikes Peak and the unique experience of enjoying world-famous donuts made at high altitude. The new Summit House is lauded for its modern amenities and informative exhibits. Some find the drive challenging and the costs (highway fee, donuts) to be on the higher side.
"We visited pikes Peak this summer, and decided to drive instead of taking the train. We were a little, unsure what to expect, as we had heard stories about the sharp curves and steep drop offs, but it was not nearly as bad as we anticipated. In fact, we really enjoyed driving up rather than taking the train and being able to explore the visitor center with out the couple hundred people that come on the train was well worth it. While it does cost $60 per vehicle to travel this road, we were comparing that to the over $800 it would’ve cost our party to go via the train. Definitely recommend the driving! The famous donuts at the gift shop at the Summit were good, but not sure I would be willing to pay that much for donuts anywhere else 😉"

"I was last up Pikes about 7 years ago with the old summit house. It was definitely a vibe. Quaint but a bit rundown. This new summit visitors center is honestly amazing. The Cafe has expanded and serves great food and the famous donuts.. The prices aren't cheap but they're worth it for the experience. There are beautiful panoramic views from the new decks and verandas. There are interactive screens and shows inside that explain the history and significance of Pikes peak. All in all well worth the trip up! Take your time and enjoy it all!"

"Absolutely amazing. Words cannot describe how incredible it is to see. Be careful as the altitude will affect you no matter how healthy you are. Be sure your car is 100% in working order if you're going to drive up. Know how to use your lower gears when you go back down trying to only use your brakes when necessary. If you rely only on your brakes you will burn them up and need to replace them. It's worth the drive trust me. The train is a great option too if you don't want to put the wear on your vehicle. Cannot wait to come back!"
