"I paid $10 to park in St. James Episcopal Church parking lot July 4, 2022 to watch the Marietta, GA fireworks display. I understand this charge went to their youth group program. I have no problem with this.
I parked early in the afternoon to secure a good spot in the lot. When I parked I observed a parked Marietta Police vehicle next to the lot. I returned to my car a few hours later and saw the Police unit still on-site.
Upon returning to my parked vehicle around 8:45pm that evening there was no Marietta Police vehicle or any officer at the parking lot.
The fireworks started and after 5 or so minutes a torrential severe thunderstorm began. It took me 45 minutes to exit the St. James Episcopal Church parking lot. I observed a lot of bullying behavior from large trucks cutting people off trying to exit in a line and saw a lot of potential fights over car positioning. If any time was good to have a stationed Marietta Police unit at the lot this was the time. I saw no representative from the church nor any law enforcement personnel anywhere.
NO ONE was directing traffic out of the one exit to this lot. This was poorly planned and a logistical nightmare to get out of with cross-traffic on Polk Street.
I will never park in this lot again for any event. St. James Episcopal Church should have a police officer on site at the end of any event directing traffic out of this parking trap."
