I had a hard time finding an actual 'campsite'! I'm used to looking for a site marker with a number, a picnic table, and a fire pit. This was just wide open grass or wooded area to throw up a tent and have a fire ring delivered to wherever you landed! It was very primitive but I made the best of it! And I think this is because they had to relocate us due to previous rainfall which caused flooding of the campsites. This is the only reason why 4 stars. The rest is 5 stars....
.
When I arrived, the gals in the small store and checkout point were so kind and welcoming. I grabbed my 12 pieces of firewood and followed the map to my campsite. After the rain on Sunday, it was an amazing time for the rest of the trip! Security was there quite often throughout the whole time I was there.
.
There were two good-sized chocolate labs, a boy and a girl, visiting campsites around Monday morning. They were sweet, friendly, and very chill. They sensed I was a solo camper. And they ended up sleeping outside my tent Monday night to protect me. I know this because my camp neighbors told me this Tuesday morning. Monday, when they came back to their site from Star Gazing by the Lake, the dogs barked at them as they approached their site. That's when they knew they were protecting me. Great story, right?!"
