What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Massanutten Resort offers a wide range of year-round activities, from its popular waterpark and ski slopes to scenic views and cozy accommodations. Many visitors praise the resort's family-friendly atmosphere and the abundance of things to do on-site. However, a significant number of reviews highlight concerns about the high cost of attractions and, more critically, the aggressive and potentially deceptive nature of timeshare sales presentations.
"My husband, our young adult(20) daughter & I visited for a 4 day, 3 night, timeshare tour last weekend.
With check-in Thursday evening, checkout, Sunday morning.
From check-in to checkout, we were greeted with excellent customer service.
Our stay was in a condo that had one bedroom, a partial kitchen (no stove), a Jacuzzi off the dining room, 2 decks, and a Jacuzzi in the bathroom.
The condo was older but I'm great condition and clean.
Our tour was Friday morning at 8 am. Our sales person, Alexis, was very knowledgeable, answered all of our questions (I had a lot, lol), and was upfront with not knowing something as she was new. Her manager, Stephen, was also, kind & courteous. We in no way felt pressured or an obligation to purchase. The incentives promised to us for taking the your were given to us and we're were thanked for our time.
There were many activities available for us to enjoy (additional expense). One of our favorites was making the mini terranium.
We are definitely looking forward to visiting again and bring the entire family."

"Massanutten is a really fun all-season mountain resort with beautiful views and lots to do. The location is peaceful, the scenery is great, and there are activities for everyone — skiing, hiking, golf, the indoor/outdoor waterpark, chairlift, and more. It’s especially good for families or groups who want a place where you can stay busy without leaving the property.
However, be very careful with the timeshare presentations here. They will try hard to convince you to sit through one, and the sales staff can be very pushy. At first, they’re extremely friendly and will make a lot of promises. But if you say you’re not interested or you want time to think, the tone can change quickly. They may act annoyed, dismissive, or try to make you feel like you’re “wasting their time.” Some people might feel pressured into making a rushed decision.
If you’re considering a timeshare, please do your own research first. Look up reviews online, understand the long-term costs, and don’t sign anything on the spot. If you’re not interested, it’s totally okay to say no and walk away — just be firm.
Overall, the resort itself is beautiful and enjoyable, and we had a good experience with the activities and scenery. Just be aware of the timeshare side of things so you can enjoy your stay without pressure."

"Deceptive Timeshare Nightmare at Massanutten Resort - Avoid at All Costs
1/5 stars
I'm writing this review as a warning to others: DO NO TRUST Massanutten Resort with a timeshare purchase. We visited the resort over a yearago and had a pleasant enough experience, especially the water park. But the moment we stepped into that high-pressure timeshare presentation, our lives took a turn for the worse.
The representative blantly lied to us about nearly every aspect of the contract. We were promised unlimited access to the property, flexibility to book any similar resort in their network, and easy trades through RCI. None of it was true.
The property is NEVER available when we try to book it.
"Similar properties" are a myth—there’s zero availability, even months in advance.
Trading through RCI is a joke. We’ve tried multiple times with no luck.
When we tried to use our timeshare, we were told it was "unavailable"—but the same property was listed for full-price rent.
Now we’re stuck with a monthly payment, exorbitant maintenance fees, and a "asset" we can’t use. The resort offers no support, no resolution. It’s a predatory trap.
Do not fall for their sales pitch. If you value your financial health and sanity, stay far, far away from Massanutten Resort. I regret every minute I wasted listening to their lies. This is not a vacation, it’s a financial burden."

Year-Round Adventure at Massanutten
Beyond the major attractions, Massanutten provides a variety of other recreational options. Golf enthusiasts can enjoy the Woodstone Meadows Golf course, while families can engage in activities like mini-golf and terrarium making. The resort also offers various lodging options, from hotel rooms to private villas and cabins, many of which are dog-friendly, adding to its appeal for a wider range of travelers.
It's important to note that while the resort offers a plethora of activities, many come with an additional cost. As one reviewer mentioned, 'The waterpark is a bit pricey,' and 'Attractions are very pricey.' Therefore, budgeting for these extra expenses is crucial for a complete experience. Despite this, the sheer variety of things to do ensures that visitors can tailor their stay to their interests and budget.
Navigating Massanutten Accommodations
When booking, consider the location of your accommodation relative to the activities you plan to enjoy. Some units are closer to the waterpark, while others might be nearer to the ski slopes or golf course. Regal Vistas at Massanutten Resort and Mountainside Villas are examples of specific lodging areas that offer spacious layouts and amenities. It's also worth noting that some accommodations are part of timeshare offerings, which can come with their own set of benefits and potential drawbacks, as highlighted in numerous reviews.
For those looking for a more unique stay, consider the 'Moonstone Escape' A-frame chalet or the 'allyearroundyurt', which offer a more secluded and cozy mountain experience with amenities like hot tubs. Regardless of your choice, booking in advance is highly recommended, especially during peak seasons, to secure your preferred dates and unit type.
The Timeshare Experience: A Word of Caution
Several reviewers have expressed significant dissatisfaction with the actual usability of their timeshares. Common complaints include the difficulty in booking desired dates or properties, with units often being unavailable even when listed for rent at full price. The promised flexibility and ease of trading through exchange programs like RCI have also been questioned by dissatisfied owners. This has led to a situation where some owners are stuck with monthly payments and maintenance fees for a 'timeshare' they cannot effectively use, describing it as a 'predatory trap.'
If you are considering a timeshare presentation at Massanutten, it is crucial to do thorough research beforehand, understand all the long-term costs and commitments, and be prepared to firmly decline if you are not comfortable. While the resort itself offers many enjoyable activities, the timeshare aspect requires significant caution and due diligence to avoid potential financial and personal stress.
