Favorite places for long road bike rides within driving distance from Boise?

Was planning on riding Going To The Sun Road this weekend before it opened to vehicles but I’ll be too late as Glacier fully opened today. What are some other good climbs in the surrounding areas? Willing to drive a couple of hours and looking for something 40-80 miles.

You have 6 days for a road trip out of Boise… where would you go??

We live here in the Valley and are looking to go on a road trip either to Northern Idaho or another state in August. We have 6 days total. We prefer spending time outdoors and don’t enjoy cities very much. We will likely be car camping and will have our baby with us! Where…

Week long road trip through Idaho. Recommendations?!

Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the North Valley Rail Trail for its beautiful scenery, especially the spectacular summer wildflowers, and its well-maintained, easy-to-navigate path. However, the challenging Highway 55 crossing and limited restroom facilities are noted drawbacks that require careful planning for a smooth experience. Reddit

"I have done the entire loop quite a few times which is around 18 miles. Crossing Hwy 55 is a nightmare. Maybe if there were crossing flags provided it would be safer. But as it stands it’s pretty scary. Sometimes I just ride back the same way I came to avoid crossing the highway on high traffic days. The trail itself is just beautiful. In the summertime the wildflowers are spectacular. The trail is well maintained. And I would rate it as easy. So beautiful and we are so lucky to be able to enjoy it."

Danielle Custer

"I would have given this a 5-star rating were I just concerned with hiking and biking. But it is 5+ mile trail with rest room facilities at the south end and nothing connected with the trail until you get into town. There is an activity barn located approximately mid trail and that would seem to be a good place to locate additional rest room facilities. Other than that I thought it was a great facility."
