Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise McKittrick Canyon for its stunning beauty, especially the unexpected fall foliage that transforms the desert landscape. The trails offer a range of difficulties, with hikes to The Notch and The Grotto being particularly rewarding, though some find them strenuous. The historical aspects and unique geological formations also add to the appeal.

"Beautiful hike & scenery. Hike until the Grotto is more like a walk. To the Notch is a hike and pretty strenuous, but oh so beautiful and well worth it. It took 5 hours for 10 miles to the Notch and back, including a visit to the Grotto and The Pratt Cabin."

"Guadalupe National Park steals my heart yet again! This trail was a beauty to hike. Peaceful, serene. Gorgeous fall colors (went in early November). It was a little chilly and windy to start but warmed up as the day went on. I hiked to Pratt Cabin then went as far as the Grotto. I wanted to keep going but had to get back to El Paso so time was limited. It was a fairly easy hike. Most challenging was approaching the Grotto (I use the term "challenging" loosely). It is all very doable. I saw kids along the trail. I loved how quiet it was but was nice to see others on the trail once in a while. Found some surprises along the way....aka had to actually cross through water! Most of the creeks we're dry. One was not. It was shallow but still got my boots wet. Honestly the scenery was so beautiful i was not even upset. It was a perfect day. I definitely plan to go back. So much beautify to explore in this place!"

Ely

"Great hikes and history in this section of the park. You could spend a week doing all the trails, but with just a half day here, we did the mile McKottrock Cs yon Nature Trail loop, and it was great, hot, but great. Bring plenty of water since there's no shade."
