Visitors rave about the breathtaking spectacle of thousands of Sandhill Cranes at Whitewater Draw, especially during dawn and dusk flights. The sheer numbers and the cacophony of calls create an unforgettable natural experience. While the remote location and limited amenities require preparation, the opportunity to witness this avian phenomenon is widely considered worth the journey.
"We were visiting Arizona and my sister-in-law suggested we go to see the cranes. It was about an hour from her home and easy to find. We stayed about an hour, until it was dark listening to the calls and cries.
It was wonderful as the V formations crossed the sky or came in to join their fellow cranes in the lake breaking up as they circled to land.
The paths provided easy access to the area and great scenes and sights around the lake. The opportunities for photography and video are numerous.
I did both but I am putting up just photos today."

"This popular birding spot is a haven for cranes and other migratory and resident birds. Most people come at dawn or dusk. However, a few people camp with their self contained vehicles. There are a few spots for camping. It’s a drive from most places. It’s a beautiful area and worth visiting if you are within an hour drive."
