Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about Derby Hill Bird Observatory's spectacular views of Lake Ontario and the incredible opportunity to witness raptor migrations, especially during spring and fall. The free admission is a significant draw. Some guests noted that the trails could be narrow and require upkeep, and August can be a quieter month for bird activity.

"Small place that we visited in August. We think the visit would be better in the spring or fall when the birds are migrating. I would give 5 stars but the trails were very narrow and need a little upkeep done. The view from the lookout spot is spectacular!"

Chris Pellegrino

"It is one of the premier bird watching and hawk watching (Raptor) places on the entire East Coast. This is an amazing place that is a must go. I think that's close to 100 acres of property including Meadows hills trails creeks, several parking areas and two areas to observe birds known as the North lookout and the South lookout. So far for 2025 / 80000 raptors have been counted. This place is run by the Onondaga Audubon society and pays for a professional bird counter to total up 3 months, March April and May each day, of all the birds seen. It is a fantastic and beautiful property there is also the 100-ft bluff looking out onto Lake Ontario where you can see numerous shorebirds and waterfowl. Some of the raptors you will see will include bald eagles golden eagles ospreys and many hawk species. Sometimes rare birds will be spotted like sandhill cranes and pelicans. I heard everyone who can to get up there and take a look at this wonderful place and as a bonus it's free. What else could you ask for."

"Very nice views of Lake Ontario. Great information boards on local birds and it's free. Ignore the private road sign leading to the road going there. Some people take great liberties in posting those signs on roads that taxpayers pay to maintain."
