What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Salamander Resort & Spa is widely praised for its luxurious ambiance, beautiful grounds, and exceptional spa and dining experiences. Guests frequently highlight the attentive staff and the serene, peaceful atmosphere. However, some visitors have noted minor issues with room cleanliness, inconsistent staff communication, and unexpected charges or robe sizing. The gym hours were also a point of concern for some.
"I stayed here three days for a business retreat. The rooms are large and beautiful. The property is beautiful. They could add additional lighting outside on the paths to the parking lot. The rooms were clean, but they can take the cleanliness to the next level. There was hair in my shower after check in, and the tiles and doors need a deep scrub. The bed was very comfortable, and I was pleased with the room service offerings. The food was very good the entire stay and the workers who served our team for the duration of the stay were excellent. The front desk staff were short-tempered and sarcastic at times. Their attitude turned me off. They seemed bothered when we asked for information. The front desk also shared with some of our team the resort offerings like the horses in the stable while not sharing the same information with other team members. Communication should be consistent for all guests. Although I was on a business trip paid for by my organization, they put a $490 hold on my card. This only happened to me. The rest of our team didn't experience this large hold. I will return, but now I know what to expect."

"Best friend and I went here for her birthday weekend for a girls’ trip. I arrived and from the first moment on property, every detail was meticulously curated, but not over-engineered. Each single staff member at the resort, spa, and equestrian center, was relaxed but poised, conveying joy and calm-silent luxury is what I would grade it. The details were impeccably selected, down to the oil wick diffusers in hallways, and the built in shelves in the shower. I had not one thing I would change with my room, either-and the bed was so comfortable. At the spa, Amy delivered my renewing massage and wrap with relentless attention-my back has not felt this good in months, no joke. Elizabeth expertly lead with pertinent details on my private trail ride, and Jinx was a complete sweetheart and joy to ride. Again, relaxation and PEACE around every corner in those woods, all my cortisol from a year without time off finally ebbing away on Miss Jinx.
Mrs. Sheila-you done good, and have amassed quite the team of rockstars.
I will be back as soon as I can, and I want to send a sincere thanks to everyone on this stellar property."

"We stayed at Salamander for our 10-year anniversary. The property is beautiful and the spa and dining were major highlights, but there were some surprising issues.
The room only had XL robes, which at 5'3" were dragging on the floor for me and even too big for my 5'8" husband. The spa’s robes fit much better. The bed was very firm, and I personally slept poorly because of it.
Staff left a bottle of Prosecco in our room with a “Happy Anniversary” note — sweet gesture — but it appeared as an $80 charge on checkout. Thankfully the front desk removed it immediately.
Dinner at Harrimans was outstanding and honestly on par with Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant. They even printed a special anniversary menu for us, though sadly the signed copy we were promised was never returned. Breakfast was great except for the Monkey Bread, which was dry and served with a strange lemon sauce — not at all like traditional monkey bread.
The spa was wonderful overall, though I did catch my toe in a loose floor panel in the women’s tropical storm shower. We also enjoyed the walking trails; an all-terrain stroller would do fine there.
Several guests asked us about modern board games (we brought Spledor and everyone wanted to play it), so adding some beyond chess/backgammon would be a great improvement.
Gym only being open from 7 to 7 we found it to be unusable. Not open early enough to do before breakfast and closed before dinner is done. There is no reason it cant be 24 hrs. Or at the very least 5 am to 10pm as the 5 to 7 am and 7 to 10am is most people typical gym time. Disappointing we weren't able to work out without having to forego day time activities.
Despite the issues, we would love to return in a few years in the summer when our daughter is older and can enjoy horseback riding, archery, and zip lining."
