Some note the intriguing legends associated with certain statues, while others appreciate the historical figures buried there. A few mention wishing they had more time to explore the extensive grounds.

"Our adventure this week took us to Montpelier, the capital of Vermont. Very quaint with history to be found around every corner.

While my Bride and I have been know to explore abandoned places , cemeteries, being brought up Catholic, isn't a place I would usually seek out. Green Mount Cemetery isn't a usual place. It has some of the most awesome statuary I have ever seen.

It is also home to the Black Agnes.
In short, if you sit in the statues lap, you apparently become cursed. You can read about the legend yourself and make your own decision on its' validity. I was there to see the monument, but had no intention of tempting fate by taking a seat. It is a beautiful piece of work.

Throughout the grounds there are awesome monuments. As you can see from the pics, the carvings are very intricate. Some like the monument of the Virgin Mary holding the crucified Christs' body are very much lifelike.

On the very edge of the cemetery I found this monument to a dog named Pepka. Beyond this up on the side of the hill and into the woods were 2 other items. A carved rock and the wolf head."

"Excellent display of "funerary" art with very detailed monument sculptures. Actually a lot of history in this cemetery if you read the plaques on many of the monuments. Take note this is Green Mount Cemetery, not to be confused with Green "Mountain" Cemetery."

"One of the most beautiful cemeteries I have visited. Beautifully kept grounds, incredible works of art stones, and serene. An absolute must visit for any taphophile or tombstone tourist. Some history about Green Mount Cemetery, started in 1854 in the midst of the areas beautiful rolling hills. Some Grave stone highlights are a life-size statue of a little girl leans against a flower-carved rail, the William Stowell tomb, which features a tall set of hand-carved stairs cut into a single granite ledge, and the John Hubbard grave is also a highlight as it depicts the bronze statue of a shrouded figure who seems to be writhing in deep grief."
