What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Moolack Beach is a beloved spot for its rich beachcombing opportunities, offering abundant agates, sea glass, and ancient fossils. Visitors appreciate the stunning sunsets and peaceful atmosphere, though some caution about challenging access and slippery terrain. Planning around tides and weather is key for a rewarding experience.
"Great beach for agates, sea glass, and fossils. Check tide tables and plan your trip around them. Winter is better for beachcombing but pay close attention to the weather. Wear rubber boots and prepare to get wet. Be extremely careful on the rocks and take your time - I have a fractured coccyx from a spill here because I rushed over them to avoid high tide and fell hard. Learn all of the beach access points in case you need to use an alternative. Agates are easiest to find if you squat down low to look. Dress in layers, wear a hat. Re-check your tide tables and never turn your back to the sea.
Access can be easy or difficult depending on multiple conditions. Parking is fine. There are multiple pull-offs along 101, each has its pros and cons. No restrooms on Moolack proper, but one is located in the state park directly north.
This is my favorite Oregon beach by far and it has a lot to offer if you enjoy a challenge (in winter) and/or beachcombing. Just be smart and prepare for multiple scenarios."
