What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the rewarding hike up Mount Beacon, especially the panoramic views from the fire tower. The challenging yet achievable trails and the vibrant Main Street with its art and dining scene are major draws. Some find the initial ascent steep, but most agree the vistas and overall experience are well worth the effort.
"We loved this hike! The overall difficulty is mostly medium, but there are sections that are more challenging (hard/difficult). In these spots, you’ll need to use both your hands and legs, possibly with some help from someone else or a hiking stick. These areas might be too difficult for older people to navigate. However, I believe it’s possible to reach the top and return by finding a less steep route that avoids the most difficult sections.
The hike took us 4.5 hours (5.7–5.8 miles) because we chose a longer route (see the attached picture of the path we took). This time includes a snack break, taking photos, and enjoying the beautiful views."

"Update 8/17/2025
The Beacon Mountain Fire Watch Tower hike is a perfect escape from the city! The trails are fairly easy, and once you make your way up, you’re rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views. Surrounded by forest and fresh air, it’s the kind of spot where you can truly disconnect and recharge.
There are a few different trail options, so it’s best to plan your route ahead to stay on track. Packing a picnic is highly recommended — enjoying lunch at the top with those views makes the hike even more memorable.
It can get a little crowded at times, but the experience is absolutely worth it. A beautiful mix of nature, peace, and adventure!"

"Great hike for the whole family! Metal stair climb at the beginning warms up your calves and quads for the rest of the climb. Took about 75 minutes to the first plateau and another 30-40 minutes to the fire tower. Of course you can cheat and use dirt bikes that I suppose bring their own challenge! Take along a backpack with water and a sandwich. Love this hike each time I do it and wonder why I don't do it more often. Coming back to the trail head literally took us only 30 minutes from the first plateau."
