What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Mount Bross offers stunning summit views and is a key part of the challenging DeCaliBron loop. Hikers praise the rewarding vistas, but many caution about the difficult, loose scree on the descent, emphasizing the need for sturdy footwear and careful navigation. The drive to the trailhead can also be demanding.
"Beautiful fourteener along the DeCaliBron Trail from Kite Lake Trailhead. Easy to get to from Mt. Cameron. Tough to get to from Kite Lake, and even tougher to get from the top back down to Kite Lake along the trail - loose dirt and scree, plus very steep slopes nearly all the way down! The views from the top though, especially of South Park, are amazing!"

"Hiked Bross on 9/23. The wind wasnβt too bad, but it did start to snow on me. Started at 2:30 p.m. after working a day and got back to the car just before sunset at 7. Best way to do four 14ers.
I highly recommend doing the hike clockwise. You go up the stepper path to Democrat and then down the shale path after Bross."

"Pretty easy trail if you can drive well. Any awd could make it with the right driving."

The summit offers incredible panoramic views of South Park and the surrounding mountain ranges. The trail itself, especially the sections with dramatic scree slopes and the approach to the peaks, also provides excellent photographic opportunities.
Early morning light can be beautiful for capturing the vast landscapes, offering softer light and fewer harsh shadows. Late afternoon light can also be dramatic, but be mindful of potential afternoon thunderstorms at higher elevations.
A wide-angle lens is great for capturing the expansive mountain vistas. A telephoto lens can be useful for isolating distant peaks. Consider a sturdy tripod if you plan on shooting in low light or for long exposures. Don't forget extra batteries, as cold weather can drain them quickly.
Generally, there are no specific photography restrictions on Mount Bross, as it's a natural area. However, always be respectful of other hikers and the environment. Avoid disturbing wildlife or vegetation for a photo.
Use foreground elements to create a sense of depth and scale. Shooting from a lower angle can emphasize the steepness of the slopes. Including a person in the frame can also help convey the scale of the mountain.
