What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Muttontown Preserve for its beautiful natural scenery, diverse trails, and the unique historical ruins of King Zog's estate. It's a great spot for hiking and enjoying nature. However, some find the trail system confusing and wish for better maintenance and clearer signage.
"Some of the trails are well maintained, but the trails' have a lot of fork roads; you need a map. You may get the map behind the house. After you finish, you can drive the car to the Chelsea Mason to walk around, or you can use the trails to walk to the Mason."

"Very nice preserve. Great trails, wildlife, nature, etc.
I came here on a nice Monday afternoon in January.
🦋Went to the Mansion & Garden as well. Highly recommend this if your in the area.
🦋There's sufficient parking and a little cabin, you'll find bathrooms in there and an info area. But when I went... it was closed... it wasn't even 3 pm...
The trails start where the cabin is.. there's many trails, so choose which path you want to go in.
You'll know you're on the trail if you see posts such as 6a, 2b, etc. There's a little swampy area, a hilly, grassy area, and so on.
🦋there's a horse ranch as well.
Overall, I definitely recommend it for a nice hike and an adventure in the woods."

"Beautiful preserve with variety of landscapes from forests to meadows to old estates. My preference to park is at Bill Paterson nature center that provides access to trails, restrooms and printed maps. Good way to navigate preserve is AllTrails app that has major trails captured. Otherwise, it might be confusing since only few major trails have trail markings. Chelsey mansion is technically part of preserve and its grounds are open for public access, however no trails start from this location. Alternative parking for preserve is equestrian center entrance on Jericho Oyster Bay Rd. This entrance is also shortest distance to former Knollwood Estate remnants aka King Zog’s ruins."
