Visitors consistently praise St. Mary of the Seven Sorrows for its stunning historic architecture, beautiful European art, and deeply reverent atmosphere, especially during its Traditional Latin Mass. It's lauded as Nashville's oldest church, offering a transportive experience. Some minor critiques mention a lack of diversity in attendance and a preference for specific iconographic styles.
"Beautiful art and icons. Traditional Latin. Kind people. Not very diverse at the Mass I attended but all kind and perfectly ordered with regards to the procession.
Not an Open Chalice Mass and only Jesus of Europe icons or it would be a 5.
The priest had an excellent homily."

"St. Mary's Catholic Church in downtown Nashville is a remarkable southern Catholic parish that truly transports you—at Easter Sunday’s Latin Mass, I felt like I was attending a historic Boston church. Conveniently located just off the highway with free parking during services, it’s very accessible. I brought my son for his first Confession and Latin Mass, and the experience was unforgettable. The service beautifully combined Latin songs and passages, accompanied by the rich smells and bells of a traditional Latin Mass, evoking centuries of faith and culture. The organ and choir performed magnificently without microphones, showcasing pure vocal talent. The stunning ceiling and stained glass windows are breathtaking. As Nashville’s oldest church, its upkeep is excellent, preserving its rich history and grandeur. A truly special place for worship and tradition!"

"Beautiful! Historic Church, oldest in Nashville. Magnificent stained glass and art work from Europe. Sweet elder lady shares the history readily. Mass is celebrated Ad Orientem, "to the east", meaning the priest is facing the high altar for the liturgy of the Eucharist. I visited on Saturday - vigil Mass was said in English, with the settings (prayers of the congregation) chanted in Latin."
