What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Washington Park offers a mixed bag of experiences. While it provides dedicated areas for dogs and a children's playscape, visitors frequently point out issues with maintenance, including a lack of amenities like water fountains and doggy bags, and poorly kept grounds. Safety concerns are also raised due to its proximity to busy streets and damaged park infrastructure.
"I have been to many dog parks, and I have to say, this one is one of my least favorite, it is located in a slightly unsafe neighborhood where there are lots of loud passing cars. Close to the street they do have two small gated dog areas but you would not want to bring large or extra large dogs here as the gates are very low, there is no water fountain nor obstacle courses or toys to play with with only about one or two dogs, coming a day for a short stay, when I went there there were also no doggy bags for picking up poop, no restroom(locked), the dog gate locks don’t shut, you can also tell that the outdoor conditions are not kept up with as the grass is all dried with mostly dirt rocks, and leaves around. The only thing good about coming here was that my dog was able to get out her energy where there is also a play escape for children where there was a child who loved my gentle dog."

"During the day was quiet and nobody there. I went back with my daughter and 2 dogs and it was crowded. But kids were having fun.
Couldn't take my dogs in the gates there were no bags. And 2 huge dogs. So we sat near the playscape. Basketball court was well lit. Everywhere else was dark."

"I love the fact New Britain finally has a dog park! Way more convenient than going to Wethersfield or Rocky Hill. In a good location, not far from Broad St. Can get a little gross sometimes. Not enough clean-up stations and garbage cans, so there is some poop on the ground. Also, people throw garbage into the dog park and your curious pup might get into it. So as long as you watch your step and play attention to what your dog is doing, it’s really not bad! I hope more dog parks come to New Britain... I mean, it’s a city of parks, right?"
