What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors often praise the Block Island Historical Society as an underrated gem, filled with engaging exhibits on maritime history, local life, and Indigenous heritage. While some note its 'small' size, many find it surprisingly extensive and recommend allocating ample time to explore its two floors of artifacts. The friendly staff and occasional special events like the Manissean Powwow add to its appeal.
"This is one of the most underrated museums I have been to. Online, one repeated reference I saw, mentioned a nice but "small" museum. First, anything spanning two floors and filling every room with unique and engaging exhibits isn't what I'd consider "small." Unfortunately, I didn't budget enough time on my one-day visit to Block Island to do this place justice. There's a lot to take in and I could have talked longer with the volunteer, but given the "small" reference I only got there a half-hour before closing. Anyone with an interest in maritime, culture, people and country history will love this place! Plan enough time to truly enjoy it."

"Visited the Block Island Historical Society for the Manissean Powwow, the traditional Indigenous people of Block Island. The museum is easy to navigate with multiple displays on two floors in a quaint building. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I will visit again when I have more time."

"we did one of the guided tours and it was amazing. We also stopped to see the fish tanks and the kids loved it. The other activities look so interesting, I wish we had done more."
